About LATO

The Latvian Transatlantic Organization (LATO) is a non-governmental public organisation that brings together like-minded individuals who want to promote Latvia’s security, active participation in NATO and cooperation with allies.

The organisation was founded on 21 March 2000 to educate and inform the public about NATO and at that time Latvia’s potential membership in it.

LATO organizes different projects – masterclasses, conferences, lecture cycles –, cooperates with experts in the field, drawing up research and publications, and focuses on educating young people on security, transatlantic and democratic issues.

The most recognizable LATO project is the annual Rīga Conference, which is organised in cooperation with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Latvia and the Ministry of Defence of the Republic of Latvia.
