Where do European strategic interests lead?

From spreading misinformation to nuclear saber rattling, the Russian war of aggression against Ukraine is in reality an attack against every European nation, and Ukraine’s victory is essential to protecting all of us as well. From dealing with the energy crisis & inflation, to rearming their militaries and rethinking alliances, the war has shaken up the security strategy of all European countries.

In this panel, Alice Guitton (Director General for International Relations and Strategy, Ministry for the Armed Forces of France), Roberts Zīle (Vice-President of the European Parliament), Kolinda Grabar-Kitarović (Former President of Croatia) and Michal Baranowski (Senior Fellow and Director, Warsaw Office at the German Marshall Fund of the United States) discuss:

-The panelists’ nations’ own zeitenwende and the strategic changes that have occurred

-Panelists’ nations’ experience: rethinking relations with Russia – have there been major shifts?

-Is the EU doing enough to help Ukraine? Could we do more?

-How does the help offered by the EU compare to that of the United States?

-The economic side of defense: who gets the defense contracts in NATO?

-Post-Brexit intelligence services in European security

-German ambitions to lead European strategy

-How can the EU best stay united regarding Russia and China?

Moderator: Dr Jana Puglierin, Head of the Berlin Office, Senior Policy Fellow at the European Council on Foreign Relations
